Aldi issue immediate ‘do not eat’ warning to customers as widely sold product gets recalled over health fears

Retail chain Aldi has issued an urgent recall of a well-known bakery product available in its Irish stores due to concerns it could pose a significant health risk to certain consumers.

Customers who may have purchased the item are being urged to avoid consuming it and instead return it to any Aldi store for a full refund—no proof of purchase is necessary, reports The Mirror.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) confirmed on Friday that Aldi has withdrawn a batch of its PYB02 PANATAS Part-Baked custard tarts from sale.

The product was recalled because some batches include cereals containing gluten (wheat), eggs, and milk that are not listed on the label, reports The Mirror.

“This may make the product unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten (wheat), eggs and milk and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated product, a spokesperson for the food safety watchdog said in a statement,” reports The Mirror.

“The affected product is being recalled from Aldi stores,” the statement continued, reports The Mirror.

Shoppers are being advised to inspect their cupboards, refrigerators, and freezers for any of the recalled items they may have bought prior to the announcement.

Aldi has issued an apology for the situation and has again reminded customers not to consume the Part-Baked custard tarts in question, reports The Mirror.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling PYB02 PANATAS Part-Baked 6 Pack because it contains the allergens egg, milk, and wheat and may contain hazelnut, soya, and sesame, which are not listed on the packaging. Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We have removed this product from sale in all stores and are recalling all affected products. Do not consume the product if you have an allergy or intolerance and return the product to your nearest store for a full refund,” reports The Mirror.
