The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that a man who recently flew into the United States from the African nation of Liberia has been diagnosed with Ebola.
The man is understood to have flown to Texas on a family visit, and did not display any symptoms when he departed the African continent or upon entering the US. However, he sought medical assistance six days later, and he is currently being treated in isolation within the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas.
CDC director Doctor Thomas Frieden informed a press conference that US hospitals are well prepared to handle patients with Ebola, and reiterated that the virus should not pose the same threat in the US as it does in Africa.
The current outbreak has infected 6,574 people across five countries and killed 3,091, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
