Alexei Navalny is reportedly awake and ‘responding to speech’, following the suspected poisoning with a potentially deadly nerve agent.
Navalny, a well know and outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin, was poisoned with Novichok, a Russian-made nerve agent. A similar substance was used to poison former KGB operative Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the UK in 2018.
Navalny fell gravely ill after drinking tea at an airport cafe in Tomsk on August 20. He was subsequently transported to Berlin, where tests revealed that he had ingested Novichok.
