A spokesperson for the German Government has said that Alexei Navalny was ‘without doubt’ poisoned with a nerve agent of the Novichok family.
Navalny, an outspoken critic of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, fell ill shortly after boarding a flight in Tomsk. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing to transfer Navalny to a medical facility. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Berlin, where he remains in an induced coma.
Novichok is the same substance used to poison Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, UK, in 2018.
