All teachers in the state of California must be vaccinated against Covid-19 or have weekly covid tests, the governor said as authorities grapple with rapidly increasing infection rates.
The number of people who tested positive for the disease has increased in the United States in recent weeks, with the highly contagious Delta variant accounting for most of the new cases.
This worries parents and educators as the most populous state in the country prepares to send its largely unvaccinated children back to the classroom for the new school year.
According to USNews, Newsom said:
“To give parents confidence that their children are safe as schools return to full, in-person learning, we are urging all school staff to get vaccinated,”
“Vaccinations are how we will end this pandemic. As a father, I look forward to the start of the school year and seeing all California kids back in the classroom.”
