Alligator that allegedly belonged to Adolf Hitler passes away in Moscow Zoo

An alligator that allegedly belonged to Adolf Hitler has passed away in Moscow Zoo.

The animal in question, named Saturn, had been gifted to Berlin Zoo during the 1940s. Saturn escaped from its enclosure in 1943, when the zoo sustained heavy damage during an Allied bombing raid.

Saturn was located in 1946 and given to the Soviets, who moved it to Moscow Zoo. It was at this time that a rumor began to spread that the creature had personally belonged to Adolf Hitler, but was being cared for in the zoo. The rumor stuck, and Saturn would be associated with the Nazi leader for the rest of its life.

Saturn passed away from natural causes on Friday, at an estimated age of 84.
