The Knights of St. Columbanus are hosting a Christmas supper for about 500 guests at Dublin’s RDS, reports RTE.
Its Christmas feast for the homeless and others in need, which started in the Mansion House in 1924, is celebrating its 100th year this year.
Over 300 volunteers are assisting with the delivery of 5,500 takeaway meals and the serving of a three-course dinner to families throughout Dublin, reports RTE.
Volunteers from several charities, including as Alone, St Vincent de Paul, Simon, Age Action, Dublin City, and others, have been gathering lunches and featuring gift bags to be distributed in cars, vans, and minibuses as they pull up to the RDS.
People are transported to and from the RDS by buses that leave from the city centre, reports RTE.
In addition to a three-course lunch, Liam Ó Maonlaà and other Irish musicians and dancers will provide entertainment.
“The event is entirely run by volunteers; but rising costs are affecting our ability to maintain the high standards we continue to uphold,” said Trevor McNamara, Chairman of the Christmas Day Dinner Committee, r r
“With your support, however, we can continue providing a warm, free meal to anyone in need on this most special of days,” he added, reports RTE.
