
In the early hours of Christmas Day, a car was driven onto the pavement in downtown London, leading to the arrest of a man on suspicion of attempted murder, reports Sky.
Following the incident on Shaftesbury Avenue, four persons were sent to the hospital, one of them was reportedly in a life-threatening situation.
At 12.45 a.m., Metropolitan Police officers received a call regarding a collision and a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road, reports Sky.
Police said in a statement that the occurrence was unique and unrelated to terrorism.
The London location of the musical Les Misérables, the Sondheim Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, has a cordon in place outside. The centre of London’s theatrical sector and West End is Shaftesbury Avenue, reports Sky.
Inside the cordon, blood, a jacket, shoes, and a hat are visible on the pavement.
A man was taken into custody “within minutes” after the police “responded quickly”, according to Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy, reports Sky.
“It’s believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to getting in his car and mounting the pavement,” he said, reports Sky.
Police are urging anybody with knowledge about the incident to contact them, reports Sky.
