Almost 8,900 Irish children are waiting for HSE needs assessment

According to updated data, at the end of the previous year, about 8,900 children had been deemed past due for an assessment of need under the Disability Act, reports RTE.

After more than three months of waiting, about 7,000 youngsters were still in queue.

The HSE gave the numbers to Sinn Féin’s health spokesman, David Cullinane, reports RTE.

An evaluation of the requirements determines if a someone has a handicap, any requirements related to health and education, and the assistance needed to address those needs.

The waiting list was being reduced, with 1,718 people on it in the first quarter of 2022 compared to 6,058 in the third quarter of 2020, reports RTE.
