It is very rare to see sharks off the Irish coast let alone a group, but one lucky photographer Andrew Power got to take a few snaps of a rare sight recently when he spotted a group of basking sharks off the coast of Co Clare on Monday.
The Wildlife conversationalist Power’s snaps have gone viral after he tweeted his photos of the sharks swimming close to the shore near Kilkee.
The remarkable sightings didn’t stop there however as The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group also reported that another group was spotted feeding off Slea Head, Co Kerry a short time later. The group wrote: “with inshore sightings now reported from Cork, Kerry and Clare in the past two weeks, it seems that basking sharks are becoming widespread along the Irish southwest”.
Meanwhile Power told RTE : “They were feeding actively for about three hours. You could see the inside of their huge mouths very clearly under the water as the were feeding. They swam close to the rocks going in circles. It was incredible.
