At a five-star hotel in Co Laois, a 30-year-old man has been accused with killing his father, reports RTE.

Henry McGowan, a resident of Clinton Street, Brooklyn, New York, was accused of the crime that allegedly occurred on Tuesday, November 12, at The Lodge, Ballyfin Demense, Ballyfin, Co Laois.

John McGowan, 60, was discovered unconscious in the hotel’s recreation area and subsequently declared deceased, reports RTE.

Detective Garda Ger Galwey provided proof of the arrest and stated that Mr. McGowan did not respond to the accusation after being warned.

Judge Andrew Cody postponed the case to November 18 for a video link hearing and remanded the arrested defendant to Cloverhill Prison, reports RTE.

Barry Fitzgerald, the defending attorney, acknowledged that the court lacked the authority to set bond.

He stated that it is acknowledged that his client has serious mental health problems. He urged Judge Cody to direct the prison authorities to give Mr. McGowan emergency medical care, and he complied, reports RTE.
