Katie Taylor’s much-anticipated rematch with Amanda Serrano will take place in the 80,000-seat in&T Stadium in Texas in little over two weeks, reports The Mirror.
The 38-year-old Bray native acknowledges that she would still “absolutely love” to fight at Croke Park before she retires.
It was generally anticipated that she would face the English boxer in a trilogy at GAA Headquarters after she became a two-weight undisputed world champion by avenging her first professional loss to Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena in November, reports The Mirror.
However, after that fight fell through, Taylor consented to a rematch with Serrano, whom she defeated in a split-decision event at Madison Square Garden in 2022, an all-time classic. On November 15, the bout will take place on the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event, which will stream live globally on Netflix.
“I would absolutely love to have the opportunity to fight at Croke Park obviously but those things are out of my control and I got this amazing opportunity to fight in Texas on Netflix so I can’t be too disappointed really,” Taylor told the Irish Mirror on a call with members of the Irish media on Tuesday evening, reports The Mirror.
“This is a huge opportunity for me. I would still love the opportunity to fight at Croke Park before the end of my career, but I don’t know if that’s possible or not. Those things are left to Brian (Peters, her manager) and negotiating with Croke Park and stuff like that, but yeah, it is still in the back of my mind. I would absolutely love the opportunity to fight in our biggest stadium, but we’ll see what happens,” reports The Mirror.
