The death of a man in his 60s at a five-star hotel in County Laois has prompted an inquiry, reports RTE.
Staff at Ballyfin Demesne discovered the victim, a US national who was a visitor, just before 8pm. yesterday.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted in Portlaoise after his corpse was taken from the location this morning.
He reportedly landed in Ireland yesterday, reports RTE.
The victim was travelling with a man in his 30s that he knew, and he was taken into custody.
In addition, he is American.
Detectives have up to 24 hours to interrogate him before deciding whether to prosecute or free him under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, reports RTE.
This afternoon, a technical analysis of the site is underway.
In north Co Laois, on 600 acres of property, is the upscale five-star Ballyfin Demesne hotel.
It is well-liked by celebrities who wish to avoid the spotlight because of its towering walls.
The hotel has previously hosted Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on their honeymoon in 2014, as well as George and Amal Clooney, reports RTE.
The hotel has received several accolades, and readers of Travel and Leisure chose it as the best resort in the UK and Ireland for 2024 earlier this year.
When called earlier today, the hotel indicated it had nothing to say, reports RTE.
