It’s a contentious topic which sees people holding very strong beliefs on either side of argument, but is it right to slap your child if they’re misbehaving?
Many parents say it’s appropriate to give their kid a light slap on the leg if they’re misbehaving whiles others say they would never slap their child.
A leading pediatric organisation in America which is made up of almost 70,000 physicians, came in with a definitive conclusion that you absolutely should never spank or yell at your children. They claim that it’s ineffective and harms them, not just physically but also emotionally and developmentally.
The organisation claims that corporal punishment (physical force designed to create hurt or discomfort) like spanking has shown to only increase aggression in children, leading to even more defiance rather than obedience, and can result in decreased brain development and a lower I.Q.
Controversially, the organisation says that children who are spanked show increased anti-social behaviour, mental health problems and cognitive difficulties that carry through into their adult years.
