Investigators have concluded that the Amtrak train that derailed near Washington on Monday morning was moving at 80mph in a 30mph zone.
The crash killed three people and injured over a hundred.
The speed limits were well signposted ahead of the bend where the train derailed. It is not yet known why the train engineer did not slow down.
The train was on its maiden trip on a new route between the cities of Tacoma and Olympia. The convoy had made two stops before derailing over a highway overpass.
