“An absolutely disaster for Fianna Fail”, as Jim Gavin pulls out of the Presidential Election after tenant said Gavin never paid them €3,000 that they were owed

In what is being described as an absolute disaster for Fianna Fail, Jim Gavin is no longer a candidate for the Aras after he pulled out of the Presidential race late on Sunday night.

Micheal Martin and other Fianna Fail TDs are said to be in meltdown mode after revelations that Gavin didn’t pay a tenant €3,000 that he owed them.

According to RTE, Gavin said “I made a mistake that was not in keeping with my character and the standards I set myself. I am now taking steps to address the matter.

“I have also thought long and hard about the potential impact of the ongoing campaign on the wellbeing of my family and friends.

“Taking all these considerations on board, I have decided to withdraw from the presidential election contest with immediate effect and return to the arms of my family.”

Mr. Gavin is investigating claims that he owes a former tenant €3,300, stating he lacks full details on the issue. The dispute, reported by the Irish Independent, involves a former tenant and coincides with a period of financial hardship for Mr. Gavin’s family.

Between 2007 and 2009, a couple renting Mr. Gavin’s apartment in the north inner city continued to pay rent via standing order due to a banking error, even after cancelling it. The tenant informed the newspaper that €3,300 was mistakenly paid to Mr. Gavin and requested acknowledgment of the error and a refund.
