Irish General elections would not be the same without the hype surrounding the 30 year old discussion on a National Broadband rollout plan.
So you can imagine our surprise when right in the middle of a Global Pandemic and not an election poster in sight when we read that Ireland can build out a National Broadband network for the World to look at.
As reported by Newstalk, the chairman of National Broadband Ireland, David McCourt said Ireland can “lead the World” in addressing the rural talent drain as the first ever customer in County Cork was connected to the National broadband Ireland network service last week.
Mr McCourt said he hopes the plan will rejuvenate rural Ireland.
“I want to see jobs created, and I want to see jobs saved,” he said. “I believe the urban-rural divide can end, and Ireland can be the gold standard for the world to look at. Ireland has the chance to lead the world in demonstrating how they can stop that migration to urban, turn it around, and let people live where they want to live.”
