Irish Water, and by extension, the government, if sliding fast into the financial cesspit whose walls are already lined by Anglo waste.

On a day when Irish Water is seeking for an extra 13bn in funding to address ‘deficiencies’ in the archaic water system buried underneath our feet. But then again, when parts of the water infrastructure used in Dublin today goes back two centuries, there’s bound to be such ‘deficiencies.’

The issue of Irish Water is once again dominating the talks, and it seems that no compromise can be reached. Fine Gael have now rejected their foe’s proposal of deferring charges until every house in the country is metered, as Fine Gael acolytes believe that conceding to Fianna Fail would effectively hand over victory to their nemesis.

Both parties are also debating the future of the ‘interim’ Universal Social Charge (USC). On this front, Fine Gael are pushing to abolish it, while their counterparts only want it phased out for those on salaries of up to €80,000.

Talking resumes today.
