Jonathan Sexton has bagged another honour in a remarkable year for Irish rugby as he was named Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Men’s Player of the Year.
Sexton who has been in top form and is in the running for World player of the year, was handed the award at the gala awards on Wednesday evening.
The Irish and Leinster out half was named the winner of the award in a memorable week that followed on from Ireland’s victory over the All Blacks at the weekend.
According to RTÉ News, Sexton said the following upon receiving the award: “It’s a very prestigious award to win.”
“You look at the list of players that have won it before, it’s very pleasing that your efforts can be acknowledged.”
“It could have gone to many, many players with the season we had in this country, I can think of six or seven lads just off the top of my head, so I’m very happy to have been chosen.”
