Gardai will be given new powers to break up house parties and issue fines, if necessary. Fines of up to €1,000 could be issued for a number of covid-related breaches.
People caught intending to attend a house party are likely to be fined, as are those who fail to wear face coverings in designated places, or people travelling beyond the established 5km limit without a genuine reason.
The new enforcement powers will come into effect with the Level 5 lockdown. Gardai can’t legally enter a property without being invited in. Many people on social media have been sarcastically saying that they wouldn’t answer the doorbell.
