Anthony Joshua’s future hangs in the balance as Andy Ruiz rematch talks get underway

It’s difficult to really know where Anthony Joshua can go after the devastating loss he experienced last night in Madison Square Garden.

In what can only be described as one of the biggest upsets in sports history, Anthony Joshua was spectacularly knocked out in style by Mexico’s Andy Ruiz Jr.

From the first bell, Ruiz seemed to be the far more comfortable and not just out-boxed but outclassed Joshua.

The main action came in round 3 where Joshua upped the tempo and caught Ruiz with a massive left hook that knocked Ruiz onto the canvass for the first time in his career.

But wait, there’s more!

Ruiz sprung back to this feet and received a devastating right hand from Joshua but took it well and hit back with his fast hands, knocking Joshua silly. He hit Joshua with 3 or 4 more punches and Joshua went down.

Barely making the count, Joshua got battered for the rest of the round and got knocked down again just making his feet before the bell.

The fight was somewhat calm for the next 3 rounds but round 7 saw Ruiz come out hard and knock Joshua down again twice, this time it was the end for AJ.

The Mexican is now the first Mexican World Heavyweight Champion in history.

AJ and his team, including promoter Eddie Hearn, say that they’ll look for a rematch in late November of December but many online pundits believe that the result would be the same and that AJ can’t cope with the speed, power and counter-punch that Ruiz has.
