Union representatives have announced that they will not accept any unilateral changes to the pay and terms of employment of any Irish Water staff.

The comments have been made in response to the Government’s announcement that no bonuses will be paid to staff, pending a review.

A spokesman for Irish Water’s parent company, Ervia, has confirmed that no bonuses will be paid for 2013 or 2014, pending the outcome of the independent review.

Nevertheless, SIPTU say that the pay model at Irish Water is based on performance, and was introduced by Bord Gais in 2012.

The stage is thus set for another round of controversy at the swirling cauldron of social unrest that is Irish Water.

The union will once again fight tooth and nail to safeguard the status quo.
