Appalling: 14 year old girl who suffered cardiac arrest turned away from Navan hospital because of age restrictions

The HSE is under severe scrutiny yet again after a 14 year old girl who was understood to have been in cardiac arrest was appallingly turned away from  Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan and sent to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda because of a change in the hospital’s age limit requirements earlier this year.

The appalling incident happened  on May 15th, when the young girl was being transported by an ambulance crew to Navan hospital after they received a call stating that she had suffered a major cardiac arrest. It is understood that the ambulance crew whilst en route to the hospital received a call from staff at Our Lady’s Hospital Navan saying they could not take the young girl as they did not have the expertise required for paediatric care, but they would however have to transport the young girl to a hospital that had a pediatrician on site which was in  Drogheda, making the life saving journey a further 20 minutes longer.

The young girl who has not been named for legal reasons thankfully survived the horrific ordeal and is now understood to be currently in recovery.
