The family of a 14-year-old girl who died in hospital following a crash in Co Wexford last week have said they are “heartbroken.”
Sophie Caulfield, from Cluain Huighead in Co Wexford, was taken to Wexford General Hospital and later to Temple Street Children’s Hospital following the crash in Sheastown, Wellingtonbridge, at around 6.20am on Wednesday 8 July, reports RTE.
Two other passengers in the car, a teenage boy and girl, were also taken to hospital.
The driver of the car, a man in his late teens, was arrested and charged in relation to the crash, reports RTE.
Sophie, a student at St Mary’s Secondary School in New Ross, died in hospital on Friday.
Her family described her as someone who “lit up so many lives,” reports RTE.
Tributes were paid to the secondary school student, with one person describing Sophie as “a lovely, polite young girl.”
Sophie was described by many of her heartbroken friends as an “amazing person” with “the kindest heart,” reports RTE.
“She had a laugh that was unforgettable. Sophie’s family should be so proud for raising such a wonderful person. Sophie filled up every room she walked into with joy and happiness, and she was there for everyone,” one of her friends said.
