Appalling: New figures show that over 2,000 children are homeless in the Dublin region

According to figures published by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive, over 600 families have become homeless in Dublin.

The appalling figures also show the number of children within families now exceeds 2,000. The alarming news will surely see the Government being put under more pressure to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile Focus Ireland has said that the deepening crisis highlights the scale of the challenge facing the Government.

The groups director of advocacy Mike Allen said: “There’s a range of things we need to do to prevent families becoming homeless.”

“There’s an increasing pattern of families becoming homeless because landlords are giving up being landlords, they’re selling up.”

“We need something to stop that. We’ve proposed before that some tax relief for landlords, some ways in which you can support landlords to remain offering accommodation would be part of the picture of what you need to deliver.”
