Apple must change the connector on iPhones sold in Europe by 2024 after EU countries and politicians today agreed a single mobile charging connector for phones, tablets and cameras for the first time worldwide.
The political intervention came after the companies failed to find a common solution.
The European Commission said the solution would make consumers’ lives easier and save them money in the long run.
Brussels has been pushing for a single mobile charging port for more than a decade after iPhone and Android users complained about having to switch to different chargers for their devices.
iPhones charge with a Lightning cable, while Android-based devices use USB-C connectors.
