Apple paid woman “millions of dollars” after technicians uploaded her explicit photos and videos to social media

Apple paid an American woman millions of dollars in a settlement after repair technicians uploaded explicit photos from her iPhone to social media.

The images were uploaded to the woman’s Facebook profile along with a sex video, which made them look as though she shared them on purpose.

The woman found out what had happened when her friends contacted her to tell her what was posted on her Facebook profile.

According to legal documents received by the Telegraph newspaper, this caused serious emotional distress and resulted in the woman suing Apple.

The woman had shipped her iPhone to an Apple Authorized Repair Provider called Pegatron Technology Service in California on January 14, 2016.

And although the tech giant settled for a multi-million dollar sum, its name was never explicitly mentioned in the lawsuit.

This was in order to keep the entire ordeal completely confidential and private.

However, lawyers for a separate unrelated Apple and Pegatron case have referenced the incident in their legal files and called the company ‘clearly Apple’.

In a statement provided to the Guardian, Apple confirmed the incident and said it has since strengthened its ‘vendor protocols.’

‘We take the privacy and security of our customers’ data extremely seriously and have a number of protocols in place to ensure data is protected throughout the repair process,’ an Apple spokesperson said.

‘When we learned of this egregious violation of our policies at one of our vendors in 2016, we took immediate action and have since continued to strengthen our vendor protocols.’
