Some areas downstream of the River Shannon remain on high alert due to rising water levels this week.
After a weekend of persistent and heavy rains, and with more rain and wind forecast for this week, areas in Athlone and around counties Limerick and Clare remain on a state of high alert, as there are fears that flooding similar to 2009 levels may occur again.
The army has been deployed in areas more at risk to assist with evacuation in the event of flooding.
