A policing operation has been launched in order to provide additional security to areas that could be potential targets of anti-immigration protests or violence from far-right agitators, reports Independent.
The operation will involve armed and unarmed garda units patrolling sites such as mosques, refugee accommodation centres, Immigration Protection Offices (IPO), and synagogues in Dublin.
Additionally, detectives assigned to monitor Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s home will confirm that there is no suspicious activity or potential threats in the area every hour, due to the high-profile nature of the post, reports Independent.
Although Mr Varadkar has a garda driver and is given round-the-clock protection by detectives, local armed units will focus on his home and the surrounding area for suspect activity.
The security operation was launched on Thursday and will continue for several weeks following recent rioting, destruction, and looting in the capital, reports Independent.
