It has been revealed that around 400 women have received incorrect information in regards to their smear test results.
According to The Irish Times, in the region of 400 women were told that their test results were negative, but instead they should have been told that their tests remained positive.
It is believed that the issue was caused by an issue at CervicalCheck and not Quest Diagnostics.
The Irish Times, say a total of 870 women were issued the same results, but almost half of that figure should have been informed that their results were positive.
It is believed that the fault occurred due to the fact that the notification system is not automated.
