A Dublin woman says she will sleep in her car “to prove” she can’t find a home as her family face homelessness.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, has three children aged 28, 16 and 15 with her husband, reports The Mirror.

Dublin Live reports that for the past three years the family have been living in the HAP home in Blanchardstown, run by Dublin City Council, but have now been forced to leave due to their son’s deteriorating health.

Her older son has Marfan syndrome, a genetic condition that causes enlarged limbs and an enlarged heart.

The boy is currently undergoing surgery to have a pacemaker implanted at Blanchardstown Hospital.

Speaking to Dublin Live, the mum explained that she “just can’t bring him home to a place that is not suitable” for his special needs.

“My son is dying in this house, it’s gone so bad. There is a lot of damp in the house and he’s in a wheelchair, he’s over 6ft so I have to help him and the stairs are not an option. My son also has epilepsy, he’s had a lot of seizures. Dublin City Council have me on the medical priority list for a house, because I need a home with a downstairs room and washroom for my son. The council have offered me a three-bedroom apartment in Ballyfermot near extended family, this means everything would be on the one level which would be good. But it means that my teenage son and daughter would still have to share a bedroom,” she said, reports The Mirror.

She said: “There’s no electricity in the car for his medical equipment which keeps him alive. It’s really terrible, and we are so worried for all the kids. I really can’t cope with any more, the council told us to go home with a dying child,” reports The Mirror.

“I’ll sleep in my car next Wednesday with my family to prove we can’t even get an old house. Dublin City Council has plenty of properties, there’s all those boarded-up houses too. We really need a house for our family,” she added, reports The Mirror.
