Ask Consent, a campaign to encourage people to ask for consent before engaging in sexual acts has been launched today.
Ask Consent is a three-week campaign, which was launched today by Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald. The campaign is supported by a number of bodies including the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, the National Office for the Prevention of Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence and the Union of Students in Ireland
A recent survey by the USI reported that 16% of those surveyed had experienced some form of unwanted sexual experience while studying at third level.
The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said in July and August alone its volunteers engaged with 108 victims of rape and sexual assaults in various locations throughout the country, however it is reported that only one in ten incidents are reported.
