The first photo-friendly marker point for tourists along the Wild Atlantic Way has been installed in Donegal.

The site at Gweedore will also feature information panels to give visitors information on the surrounding locality.

The Wild Atlantic Way stretches for 2,500km along Ireland’s western coasts, facing out onto the vast Atlantic ocean.

Approximately €10 million has been invested in signposting the route and now a further €3.5 million has been provided for the installation of these marker points, highlighting photo opportunities for tourists.

The markers are designed to frame the photos taken by visitors and there will also be weather-proof information panels installed.

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Michael Ring unveiled the first photo marker at Bloody Foreland, in Gweedore.

Fáilte Ireland has been working with local authorities to roll out 188 installations before next year.
