ASTI warn of further strike action next month unless significant deal is struck

The secondary school teachers union of Ireland (the ASTI) have warmed that further strike action could arise if no improvements are made to current pay and conditions.

The news comes after representatives of the union agreed to suspended initial strike action this week and resume talks with Department of Education along with the Teachers’ Conciliation Council, today.

It is understood strike action could occur next month unless four key issues including working additional hours, supervision and substitution duties, new-entrant pay levels and junior cycle reform, are resolved.
