The now Minister for State for Training, Skills and Innovation John Halligan has stepped out of his corner and said that he “fought vigorously” for a referendum on the public ownership of the doomed utility that is Irish Water.
His ire now placated by an official title with a juicy pension hanging off it, the man who once shook his fist up in the air to say he’d ‘rain hell on the Government’, Mr. Halligan now says he went to great lengths to make sure that the bill on eventual ownership of Irish Water goes before the Dáil.
Mr. Halligan said “I accept the spirit with which the proposal is made and for that reason I and my Government colleagues will not be opposing the Bill at this stage.”
