At least 18 people have been killed after a commuter train smashed into a minibus at a level crossing in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. The bus driver drove onto the rail tracks, ignoring the safety signals for an oncoming train.
Thirteen passengers on the bus were killed instantly. Five more people died, the driver included, died either at hospital or on the way there. Nobody on the train lost their life.
Transport incidents are a common occurrence in Jakarta. Traffic is heavy and roads are heavily congested. Buses and trains are often badly maintained and in need of repair.
