At least five people have died after a volcano suddenly erupted in White Island, New Zealand.
It is understood that a group of 50 tourists were in or near the crater at the time of the eruption. The volcano sent molten material and debris in a large radius. Twenty-seven people managed to flee, but many were caught up in the explosion.
Five bodies have so far been recovered, but the area around the volcano remains unstable and there are fears of further eruptions, which is hampering rescue efforts.
