Joining the lethal Asian hornets in a deadly dogfight for air supremacy over Irish skies, a horde of Diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) may soon make its way into the country.
Deemed a “super-pest”, the creature is known for its penchant to attack crops such as cabbages and cauliflowers.
The species is known to have developed resistance to most insecticides to avoid extermination.
And after being detected in large numbers over in the UK, moth experts are now warning that there could also be a significant increase of the species here in Ireland.
Cabbage and cauliflower cultivators are bracing themselves for that could very well be the end of days for their crops.
