Australia could potentially introduce a new register that will name and shame convicted paedophiles

The Australian Government could soon introduce a new sex offenders register that will identify all convicted offenders.

Under new laws which were put forward by the Coalition Party, all paedophiles could be named and shamed in the new national register.

The controversial new register which will include, the names, photos, location and aliases of all convicted offenders has moved a step closer following the Coalition’s win in the recent general election.

It is believed the new register which will also an offenders previous crimes was put forward by the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, earlier this year.

Speaking about the possible register in April, Dutton said the register would work to protect our most vulnerable in society – which is our children.

Although no clear guidelines of how the register would work have been issued, reports in Australia say it will be managed by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

It would also work with police agencies in every state and territory, who would be given access to vet and manage the information on its system.
