Austrian police have opened an inquiry after an Irishman allegedly struck two fellow Irish brothers with a glass in a pub following a day on the slopes, reports The Mirror.

The attack is said to have taken place at an après-ski bar in the resort of St. Anton am Arlberg, around 80 kilometres west of Innsbruck and near the Swiss border, reports The Mirror.

Police sources confirmed that three middle-aged men were involved in the altercation – and all were Irish nationals.

A statement from the Federal Police said: “On February 12, 2026, at approximately 8:00 PM, two related assaults occurred in an après-ski bar in St. Anton am Arlberg, reports The Mirror.

“The first assault involved a 50-year-old Irish citizen and a 43-year-old Irish citizen, in which the 50-year-old struck the 43-year-old in the face at least twice with a beer glass, seemingly without provocation, causing serious injuries.”

Authorities stated that the injured man’s brother stepped in to assist him – but the alleged attacker then turned on him too.

Officers said: “The second assault involved the same 50-year-old Irishman, who struck the 43-year-old’s brother, a 41-year-old Irishman, in the face with the beer glass, reports The Mirror.

“The brother had only tried to help his brother by punching the 50-year-old in the face at least three times.”

Police added that security staff at the venue eventually stepped in. The first brother was later transported to hospital in Zams, a town roughly 30 kilometres away. The alleged assailant also sustained facial injuries – but refused medical treatment.

Cops said: “The situation was only defused when the bar’s staff/security intervened and separated the two parties. The 43-year-old Irishman was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Zams, reports The Mirror.

“The 50-year-old Irishman sustained injuries of undetermined severity and declined treatment from emergency services.”

Austrian authorities later informed The Irish Mirror that no arrests had been made – though a file is now being prepared for prosecutors, reports The Mirror.

Their statement said: “No arrests were made in this matter. Once the investigation is complete, a report will be filed with the public prosecutor’s office,” reports The Mirror.
