Author Salman Rushdie seriously injured and on a ventilator following attack on stage




The author Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator in hospital following an attack on stage in New York state.

According to RTE, the writer was stabbed in the neck and torso during a lecture.  He was airlifted to hospital and underwent hours of surgery.  He was unable to speak and is said to have suffered serious injuries.

His book agent Andrew Wylie wrote about the attack in an email, writing “The news is not good.  Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed, and his liver was stabbed and damaged.”

Mr. Rushdie has lived under the shadow of a bounty of his head for many years she he wrote his book, “The Satanic Verses” which offended some Muslims who thought the book was blasphemous.

A man was arrested at the scene of the attack.
