Author Salman Rushdie seriously injured and on a ventilator following attack on stage




The author Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator in hospital following an attack on stage in New York state.

According to RTE, the writer was stabbed in the neck and torso during a lecture.Ā  He was airlifted to hospital and underwent hours of surgery. Ā He was unable to speak and is said to have suffered serious injuries.

His book agent Andrew Wylie wrote about the attack in an email, writing ā€œThe news is not good.Ā  Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed, and his liver was stabbed and damaged.ā€

Mr. Rushdie has lived under the shadow of a bounty of his head for many years she he wrote his book, ā€œThe Satanic Versesā€ which offended some Muslims who thought the book was blasphemous.

A man was arrested at the scene of the attack.
