Rents in the capital have spiralled out of control, and now stand higher than they were at the peak of the housing bubble.
New figures just released by the Residential Tenancies Board show that rents in Dublin are now 0.2% higher than they were at the height of the boom.
The same figures show that rents outside of Dublin are also rising, but at a much slower pace. They remain 13.9% below their 2007 peak.
An average rent in Dublin now stands at €1,454 for a house and €1,306 for an apartment. These compare unfavourably to last year’s figures of €1,342 and €1,208, respectively.
