A total of 161 post offices are expected to close in the near future after postmasters have agreed to take voluntary retirement.
According to RTÉ News, the agreement will most likely result in post office closures as An Post will look to overhaul its network following a €50m investment.
It is not yet known where the closures will occur, but An Post say they will provide further information at the end of the month.
The news will come as blow to some local communities around the country, but the closures were widely expected with previous reports suggesting that 200 post offices were expected to close in the foreseeable future.
