There was bad news for a number of rural communities today as the CEO of An Post has confirmed that hundreds of post offices across the country over the coming years ahead.
Speaking about the issue which has been a long standing issue An Post’s David McRedmond, told RTE’s Today With Sean O’Rourke programme that the vast majority of post offices will be forced to shut their doors in order for the company to consolidate the business which will ultimately lead to the company staying afloat without any further loses.
Mr McRedmond told the programme the decision which has long been discussed was not set in stone but mass closures were inevitable considering the change in the market which has more competitors than in previous years.
The An Post chief explained there are currently 1,066 post offices across the country, and he expects in the region of 200 or more to close in the near future.
He added An Post’s aim is to provide a fantastic service across the country.
