Minister for Arts and Culture Patrick O’Donovan was taken to hospital in Brussels after becoming unwell earlier in the week.
He had been in the city to introduce a concert at Le Flagey cultural centre, one of three flagship projects under Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.
A spokeswoman for the minister confirmed that he became unwell on Tuesday night and was admitted to hospital, where he remains under close medical observation. She asked for privacy to be respected for the minister and his family, and said there would be no further comment at this time.
O’Donovan revealed last year that he has a photosensitivity condition that can trigger epilepsy.
