Bad night for Dundalk as they are beaten 2-0 by Legia Warsaw in Champions League play-off

Dundalk’s Champions League dream looks all but over as they were beaten 2-0 by Legia Warsaw in Dublin tonight.

The Lilywhites who went further than any other Irish side were undone by two Legia goals in the second half. Dundalk found themselves 1-0 down when Stephen Boyle was harshly penalised when the referee judged he handled the ball inside the box. The resulting spot kick was dispatched to give the Polish side the lead.

Stephen Kenny’s men pushed hard to get back in the game and were unlucky not to get a penalty of their own when Kieran Kilduff was pushed over in the Legia box but the referee waved play on. The final blow came in injury time when Legia broke free and scored a second to break Dundalk and Irish hearts.

The Lillywhites now face an uphill task in the return leg in Warsaw next week needing three goals to progress.
