Banks to issue statements later today – but mortgage tracker scandal could yet rumble on as banks refuse to agree to return holders to their original tracker plan




Thousands of mortgage holders across the country will find out later today whether or not they will be entitled to a refund and have their previously agreed terms restored by the countries biggest banks.

The news comes as a number of the nations money lenders have announced they will issue statements in regards to the recent tracker mortgage scandal.

According to RTE News the statements which will be released later today will give thousands of mortgage holders further clarity in regards to their future financial situation.

It is thought the statements will be released by the banks in order to ease growing pressure which is currently being applied by the Government and opposition TDs in the Dáil.

Meanwhile the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe is also scheduled to give a statement later today which will provide further clarification on the Government’s position regarding the scandal which has affected thousands of homeowners across the country.

However the scandal which has drawn criticism from not only the Government but the Irish people, could yet rumble on as early indications’ have suggested that those in charge at some banks are digging their heels in by refusing to restore mortgage holders to their original tracker mortgage.

Such a stance by banking chiefs is likely to cause further unrest amongst leading figures in the Dáil who have already ordered those involved to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.
