Batten down the hatches, as Met Eireann issues weather warning over approaching heavy rains

Summer remains elusive around these parts, it seems.

After a total  washout during the recent June Bank Holiday, the next 48 hours will be pretty much the same.

Heavy rain is going to spread from the Atlantic overnight, bringing blustery conditions on western and north-western coastal areas. Heavy showers will be widespread tomorrow morning.

This heavy rain will tend to disspate towards the afternoon, to be replaced by sporadic showers.

The weather warning affects Donegal, Mayo, and Galway. Strong winds with gusts of up to 100km/h are expected.

Early forecasts for next week indicate a more settled pattern, but still a long way away from a real summer.
