Be careful out there – Met Eireann issue 48 hour status orange very heavy rain warning

Met Eireann have issued a 48-hr status orange rainfall warning, specifically for counties Cork and Waterford, while yellow wind and rain warnings are in place in western counties. The rest of the country will see rainfall both today and tomorrow also.

From 6pm last evening until 6pm Monday evening, the national weather forecaster says that very heavy rain is expected and will cause flooding and dangerous driving conditions in many areas.

Met Eireann says:
“In the 48-hour period from Saturday evening to Monday evening, a spell of heavy rain through Saturday night and Sunday followed by a second spell of heavy rain later on Sunday night and Monday will give large rainfall amounts,”.

“Rainfall amounts will be highest along the south coast and in mountainous areas.”

The good news is that from Tuesday onward, the weather is looking increasingly better with warm, dry and sunny spells.
