Beach day? Dalkey to become home to Ireland’s first nudist beach

Ireland will soon have its first overtly nudist friendly beach which. The birthday suit beach will open in April at Viko Bathing Place at Hawk Cliff in Dalkey.

While the country has numerous beaches being used for nude bathing, tanning and swimming since time immemorial this is the first time a beach is being officially signed as friendly to nudists.

Pat Gallagher of the Irish Naturist Association has said that the organization has been campaigning for a nudist friendly beach for decades and this marks a “milestone” for Ireland in an interview BBC Radio Ulster.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council however, have issued a statement saying that they are not designating the bathing area as a “nudist beach” but will have signs warning the public that they could encounter nudist beach dwellers and bathers at the picturesque location.
